Emergency communication is a must when running offshore. It is a coast guard requirement under commercial and charter licenses. EPIRB devices are the best way to have an automatic distress signal transmitted should the boat have a catastrophic emergency. If the crew doesn’t have time to initiate communication the EPIRB will deploy and send a satellite signal.
