Saltwater is one of the harshest environments for mechanical equipment.  Not only is the salt abrasive and can build up stopping parts from moving properly.   Galvanic corrosion from salt interacting with dissimilar metals.   Galvanic corrosion can be so severe that it “welds” dissimilar metals together.   To protect your reels from corrosion and salt build up it is important to use cleaners like Salt-Away that dissolve salt without harming surfaces or degreasing the reels.  Periodically oiling exposed areas of the reel that could become degreased from wear will help areas like line rollers, levers, drag presets, etc.   If you are brave enough to disassemble your reels grease and oil the appropriate parts when reassembling.   Pro Tip: Don’t over grease parts.  Use a small paint brush and apply a thin layer to gears, clutches, and the case of the reel.   Oil is best on bearings.
