Eliminate the struggle of anchor retrieval with the Olde Salt Anchor Ring, which harnesses the buoyancy of a poly ball buoy to lift and suspend the anchor for effortless recovery. Ideal for bottom fishing or anchoring in depths over 50 feet—and particularly useful when using double anchors—this ring works with a rigged poly ball (sold separately). Rig by splicing a 3-foot length of ½" rope to the poly ball and attaching the included heavy-duty carabiner to the other end. To deploy, record your compass heading and rode length, thread the rode through the ring, and fasten it with the carabiner before dropping the poly ball. Gradually move forward to slacken the rode, switch the line from the bow to a strong stern cleat secured with figure-eight wraps, and steer at a 35-45º angle to the initial heading. As the rode forms a “J” curve and the poly ball trails below, return toward the original heading until the ball surfaces behind the boat. Once taut and trailing, put the engine in neutral and steer toward the ball to drift sideways. Recover the rope smoothly by hand, coiling it for clean storage and hassle-free next use.
