The Penn Fathom II Star Drag Conventional Reels combine a rigid, full-metal construction with smooth casting performance and convenient serviceability for demanding saltwater applications. The second-generation design features a full metal body and sideplates to maintain precise gear alignment under heavy loads, while a machine-cut marine-grade bronze main gear and hardened stainless steel pinion provide the strength and durability needed for hard-fighting fish. Penn's Live Spindle design incorporates a free-floating spool for reduced resistance and long, effortless casts.

A Fast Gear Access Sideplate provides convenient access to the drivetrain and HT-100 drag system for routine maintenance without completely disassembling the reel. Six shielded stainless steel ball bearings and an instant anti-reverse bearing provide smooth, responsive operation, while select models feature power gear ratios for increased torque when working fish from deep water. Sizes 12 and 15 also incorporate a magnetic casting brake for additional spool control.
