Welcome to another J&B Tackle Fishing Report. We hope you had a great Fourth of July weekend, because the fishing did not disappoint. Whether you were offshore chasing tuna or sticking closer to home in Long Island Sound, there was something bending rods all weekend long. Check out our J & B Fishing Report Video for the Week of July 7, 2025.
Offshore Report: Big Tuna and Canyon Chaos
The canyons lit up, plain and simple. Bigeye and yellowfin showed up in full force at West Atlantis, with anglers reporting wolfpacks of small yellowfin running tight together. And just like we predicted in last week’s report, the bluefin finally made their push in. The bait and life had been there, and now the fish followed.
Charter boats confirmed a solid bluefin bite five to ten miles west of where they were holding over the weekend, and a few guys even hooked up at (Habs). Habs wasn’t the hot spot, but there were hints of a jig bar bite like we saw last season. If you’re heading back out, West Atlantis is still the move, and we’re keeping an eye on whether the bite spreads into the Tails.
Inshore: Bass Still Biting Deep, Porgies a Puzzle
Striped bass fishing remains good, but it is more inconsistent with the warm weather pushing them deeper. Your best chance is to hit the end of the tide when they’re most aggressive.
Porgy fishing turned out to be more of a challenge than expected, but when you find them, it’s game on. Once you get on a pile of bait, the action is rapid fire. The best bet is to keep your drifts short and watch the sonar for bait marks.
Fluke Fishing: Work for It, But It's Worth It
The fluke bite is producing, but you’ve got to put in the effort. Our charter boat had a solid week, but this wasn’t a set-it-and-forget-it drift. Pay attention, stay on the fish, and be ready to adapt.
Swing by the shop for updated local reports and to grab the right lures for the current conditions. We have what you need to dial it in before the weekend ends.
Tight lines, and we’ll see you on the water
